Our Ambassadors


Ananya Asthana   Founder + President (Illinois)  Ananya is 17 years old and a senior at the University of Chicago Laboratory High School. She got involved in WiSTEM as she was inspired to bridge the gap between social justice channels and academic fields. Outside of WiSTEM, she leads her high school Model UN team and creative arts magazine. Ananya hopes to delve deeper into the area of social entrepreneurship and innovation. Beyond school, Ananya is an avid reader, aspiring yogi, and religious chai drinker.

Emma McMullan   Alpharetta High School Ambassador (Georgia)  Emma McMullan is 17 years old and a senior at Alpharetta High School. She is incredibly excited to lead her school's Women in STEM chapter and to help girls stay passionate about STEM by providing them with the support they need. She is also involved in Future Business Leaders of America, French Club, and helps produce her school's biweekly morning show. Emma also founded and currently runs her school's Astronomy Club and hopes to pursue a degree in Astrophysics in the future. Her hobbies include reading, sewing, and petting cats.

May Jiang   Los Altos High School Ambassador (California)  May is 15 years old and a sophomore at Los Altos High School. She has a passion for STEM and hopes to pursue a career in the field, especially in biology. She is the president of the Women in STEM club at her school, and does various activities with them, such as volunteer at schools to help encourage girls to pursue STEM careers. Outside of WiSTEM, Mina is the Executive Director of March for Science Minnesota, an organization that advocates for equitable based policy and funding allocation that serves all communities. This year she also plans on helping her school create a chem club so other kids outside of class can learn more about the science of chemistry. She is very passionate about biology and robotics. Outside of her school life, she is an active softball player and plans to start donating her time volunteering at a pet shelter near her house.

Mishti Dhawan   Interlake High School Ambassador (Washington)  Mishti is a rising junior at Interlake High School in Bellevue, Washington. She is passionate about STEM, leadership, and politics. She is working towards bringing STEM opportunities to youth in her community. This past year, she co-founded STEMTeen, an initiative that seeks to bring STEM workshops and other opportunities to youth in her community. Mishti is an avid reader, a nature enthusiast, and a passionate activist. In her free time, you can find her at Debate tournaments or leading free science workshops at local middle schools to ignite the curiosity of youth.

She is interested in statistics and the biomedical sciences, and is passionate about using today’s rapid advancements in technology to help reduce social inequalities around the world. By bringing WiSTEM to her high school, she is excited to support girls in STEM and introduce them to its many opportunities. In her free time, Anne enjoys writing both poetry and fiction, and loves graphic design.

Leyla wanted to start a WiSTEM chapter at her school to create a support system for girls with similar interests both in and after High School and to provide girls with a closer relationship with women in STEM who can serve as mentors and role models. She is also deeply interested in the intersection between technology and public policy and believes women in STEM can potentially rise to the challenge to tackle issues that persist in this field. Leyla also does Model U.N., Mock Trial, and writes for her school’s technology magazine.

Shriya is interested in artificial intelligence and robotics and hopes to pursue those fields in college. She is excited to be a part of WiStem and can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year!

Sufi Kaur   Palo Alto High School Ambassador (California)  Sufi is 17 years old and a senior at Palo Alto High School (Paly) in California. After wishing for a supportive community in many of her math and science classes, she was inspired to co-found the Paly Girls in STEM club. Sufi loves computer science and psychology, and hopes to study the intersection at artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction in college. She is also a Lincoln-Douglas debater and Impromptu speaker with the Paly Speech and Debate Team and cross-country athlete. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, and cooking, and playing the ukulele.

Elisabeth Kim   Dwight-Englewood Ambassador (New Jersey)  Elisabeth is a 17 year old (upcoming Senior) at the Dwight Englewood High School. She is passionate about sharing all the wonderful possibilities, ideas, and questions that her interest has created, with the younger women of our generation. She wants to help cultivate a love for STEM within young girls because she sees how many girls stray from the interesting field due to the overwhelming male-majority. The WISE club, which stands for Women in Stem Education, at the Dwight Englewood promotes female involvement in the STEM field. Their goal is to encourage young girls to get involved in math, science, and engineering. Every Wednesday, the girls in the 4th grade and the members of the club experiment with biology, chemistry, and engineering! Within the STEM field, Elisabeth is specifically interested in bio-medical engineering. She volunteers at the hospital every Sunday and shadowed surgeons over this past summer. One day, she hopes to become an orthopedic surgeon. She also loves ceramics (as she is taking AP Art), lacrosse, and field hockey! She plays on the Varsity field hockey and lacrosse team and is the president of the Community Service club at her high school.

Jenna is the meeting coordinator for WiSTEM at Glenbrook South High School and is honored to have the club become an official WiSTEM chapter this year. Jenna’s role in the club involves brainstorming projects for club constituents to work on, managing the GBS WiSTEM social media, and leading club meetings. Jenna is in the Science and Engineering Learning Community at her school and has taken four years of PLTW engineering courses. She completed an internship at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine this past summer, researching oncofertility. In addition to STEM-related activities, Jenna is in the vocal jazz ensemble and all-female a cappella group at GBS. She plays varsity tennis and volunteers at her church.

Hannah May   San Diego High School Ambassador (California)  Hannah May is 16 years old and a senior at San Diego High School. She founded her school’s Women In STEM club in 2017 and has lead as the co-president along with Sonia Redon since then. She hopes that through WiSTEM, she can encourage more girls to pursue STEM careers throughout their higher education and beyond. Hannah’s interests lie heavily in the math and science, and she looks forward to studying computer science in the future. Among other school activities, Hannah is part of an environmental club and political activism club. Outside of the classroom, she volunteers at her local science center as well as interns with their Retail Department.

Nisha loves computer science, math, and physics, and plans to study artificial intelligence in college. She is also a science tutor for seventh graders at her school. Shravya hopes to pursue a career in medicine and is a competitive tennis player, regularly volunteers with ACEing Autism, and is a huge foodie and an avid traveller.
